Periyar Tiger Reserve

Nestled in the southern Western Ghats mountain ranges of peninsular India, Periyar Tiger Reserve is the oldest and largest Protected Ares of Kerala (777 sq. km.). Predominantly an evergreen biotype with great scenic beauty and rich assemblage of flora and fauna, Periyar epitomizes the opulent ecological and cultural diversity typical of tropical rain forests. Sabarimala the famous forest shrine of Lord Ayyappa, Sabarimala the famous forest shrine of Lord Ayyappa, visited by around 5 million people annually, is situated on the western flank of the reserve. People oriented and park centered community based eco-tourism is the hallmark of Periyar Tiger Reserve.

The Periyar Tiger Trail

The programme is unique in being conducted by a team of poachers who turned protectors of the forests. The team members are hardy and dependable with an intimate knowledge of the forest terrain the programmes are one night / two days and two nights & three days. The first days trek starts at 12 noon and ends by noon in the second or third day. The team consists of a maximum of five visitors, five guides and two forest officials.Normally 20 to 35kms. of trekking distance will be covered, depending on the route chosen.

Tracks Of Gavi & Parunthumpara

Gavi, a picturesque land is one of the off- the- track destinations ideal for a wilderness retreat replete with trekking, birding, sholas, cascading waterfalls and cardamom plantations. Endangered species including the elephant, nilgiri tahr, lion-tailed macaque are often sighted at the outskirts of Gavi.

Rammakkalmedu

A mountain peak that can give you a bird's eye view of western ghats and the plains of Tamilnadu below. There is a tale that the lord 'Sree Rama' the hindu mythological God had set his foot on this rock hence the name Ramakkalmedu (Rama-Kal-Medu). Also you can see here the Kerala's biggest statue of'kuravan & kurathi' the two historical characters of local community who's name where given to the rocks between which the Idukki dam was built. Ramakkalmedu is 28 kms from Thekkady.

Chellarkovil

Four kms off Anakkara on the Munnar Kumily road this sleepy wind-sricken little village slops to the farmland of Tamilnadu. The panoramic view and silver cascade add to the charm of the place. From its mountain top one can enjoy the view of the plains below.

Calvery Mount

The gold spot of high range 'calvery mount' is situated 48 kms from Thekkady towards Idukki. The view of Idukki dam water reservoir from the top is mind goggling. The forest department is conducting trekking through the wildernes of the forest. It is also a pilgrimage centre and thus the name 'calvery mount.

Idukki Arch Dam

Idukki arch dam is world's second and Asia's first arch dam, constructed across the kuravan and kurathi hills. It is 650 feet in breadth and 550 feet in height, and lies close to the cheruthoni barrage. To the west lies the kulamavu dam. the under ground power house at moolamattom is another attraction. Idukki wild-life sanctuary is adjacent to this world famous arch dam. Idukki arch dam is situated 58 kms. from Thekkady towards Kochi.
